PR Card has ARRIVED! - Celebration

Only took 1 month.
A month faster than I've read it would take for us to get it. Imagine that!
Guess they figured they kept us waiting long enough. lol

Question: Does he need to walk with that card in his wallet all the time? Hmmm?

The attached letter indicates he should carry it with him when traveling. You know, like a passport. It really doesn't have any information on the card other than an ID# and his photo. I think he should keep it on him like a drivers license. Just soo happy it came. Now....to wait on the OHIP card and he is done with everything he needs. Hopefully by then, things would have worked out for him and he'll be back to work with his old company. We'll see...keeping fingers crossed.

Anyways.....Furman was in the baking mood last evening.
Tomorrow is the last day at work for one of my colleagues who is changing departments and several have brought in treats. I brought in Furman's creation....Red Velvet Cheesecake!  He was planning for some time now to bake something for me to bring in for the Ladies. (His fan club in my office). lol It just worked out that I wanted to bring something in today so it gave him an excuse to make this cake.
You see....I'm not much of a cake person. So..for him to keep making cakes at home means that HE has to keep eating them. lol But today....he's got several to enjoy it. I'll have some too of course, before heading to the gym. Trying to maintain my figure! lol

And LOVE MY FURMAN!!

It was a task getting it to work. Only because the cake carrier kept shifting which caused the icing to rub on the sides. lol Cream cheese icing I might add. Not much rubbed off...but enough to make me cringe every time it moved.

Well...let me tell you....when it was time to put the food out....OMG!

It was meant to be shared with a small circle of friends at work...but actually was shared with our entire department. Those that wanted a piece anyways. lol We were celebrating a colleagues move to another location. (Gee...that sounds bad...but is meant in a good way) We have an area at work called the TROUGH where we usually put food out for the department when having potlucks and such. After all, when you do that everyone is supposed to bring a dish to share and there are a lot of us. So...Furman's cake sat amongst about 4 others (bought and made). It was shared that my husband baked the cake (it was 1 of 2 that were homemade)...looking at it, you couldn't tell what kind it was although a few already knew. But when that cake got cut into. Boy oh boy. Reminded me of the photo above. How the birds swarm in for their share. haha It was cute.

I'm a proud wife! My hubby did good. I've got a good man....and now everybody here knows it. lol
He made great use of his time unemployed by teaching himself to cook, and bake and just make me happy. He sure does.
So, with belly full...I blog!
I worked my butt off this morning while my colleague packed up her stuff. So, I deserve the break. :)


Orders are coming in. lol Colleagues wanting Furman to make a cake for an occasion. Colleagues asking for his recipes. While on Facebook (because you know I had to share the same photo), suggestions have come in that he go ahead and take the baking course...become a Cake Boss!! I agree. But, his complaint is that I wont eat them.




Thank you Furman, on behalf of my office colleagues that got to enjoy your cake. And, for those that missed out. Bet they wont next time!. lol
After all, Furman says: "Next time i'll do chocolate!"
Gotta love him!

Ladies' Movie Night

Aww yes....

Ladies' Movie Night at my church.
And.....my daughter came with me.
Oh...but not only did she come with me...but she traded her shift at work to do so. Love her! That meant a whole lot to me.

I did tell her that she didn't need to do that though....making money was more important. I guess she didn't agree with me. Yup...she is much like her momma! She had originally agreed to come with me before finding out that she had to work. I think she was a little too slow with requesting the night off in advance. lol So, she traded her shift. How is that for making momma feel special? A pleasant surprise.

When people want to spend time with you, they MAKE TIME and NOT EXCUSES.
(With the power of social media, you can often learn that people's excuses are just that! Lol)

Anyways, we ended up inviting one of her friends (my daughter from another mother, lol) because we had an extra ticket. That's a whole other story I wont even get into. Let me just tell you that the whole thing worked out the way it was supposed to.

God is always at work! Giving us what we need and when we need it too.

Great story with some laughs.

It was a lovely evening.

I was impressed with the organization of the event. I probably shouldn't have been though. My church really has its act together. I mean gheez...they printed tickets! lol Everybody just makes things work and tonight was no exception. When we walked in, they had a table set up to collect our pre-purchased tickets. Only $2, I might add. In some cases, we had our names to check off a list because it was such a great turn out that more tickets were sold than was printed. If you saw my church, size is no issue.

Next to that table, was a table set up with pre-packaged bags of flavoured popcorn. Three choices actually. I'm a white cheddar kind of girl. Lol With the popcorn you had a selection of three mini chocolate bars. Oh, but that wasn't all. You then got to select either a package of liquorice nibs or a package of nuts. We even had a selection of those - almonds, peanuts or cashews. Seriously! Oh, and lets not forget something to wash it all down. They sure didn't. Lol. Choice of soda, juice or water. Yup, there was coffee too. Man, they did good. Proud to call Cedarview my church. My daughters friend hasn't been to our church yet, so this was a great introduction for her. She had a great time. We all did.



So yeah, if you can spare the 90 minutes....watch the movie. I'm sure you'll enjoy it too. Trust me on this one. I'd love to know your thoughts.

It's nice to know that living out of town has it's advantages. lol We live only 40 minutes from all this winter fun. So....after all the fun we had on Saturday....we definitely plan to go back before the winter is officially done, so that we can share in the fun with my daughter. Don't think I could ever get my son to join in on the fun. But...you never know. We were with our Marrieds Group from church...that's why she couldn't come with us this time. (Although she could have gone with the Youth Group) But that's ok. We'll definitely make it up to her. This kind of fun is right up her alley.

Got ourselves all put together with our snowpants on and stuff to brave the cold. Actually, it was kind of a mild winter day so we were really lucky. That being said, we dressed "just right" and didn't feel cold in the least.

Now remember I was telling you about the awesome deal I got on a new snowsuit the other day?  Alarmed! Well, here is what it looks like. It did the trick.  Love it!

Anyways....tubing wasn't expensive at all. (For those interested - Rates) You can pay per ride or you can get 6 rides for $20. Or, just pay for 2 hrs for $20. Thing is, you don't know what the better deal is because you don't know how busy it might get. In 2 hours, you could get about 6 rides or just over if you are lucky. So, for $5 more, we paid for 4 hrs. Duh!! We went in the evening which you'd think would be way less crowded than the daytime. Think we were right. We actually ended up getting our money's worth after like the first hour and a half. When it started to get a bit busy and the wait was a little longer to get up the hill, it was nooo problem. lol The rest did us good because we were nonstop, up and down like schoolage kids. hahaha It was awesome!!!

We didn't think to take any video going down or lots of photos because we figured they wouldn't come out very well with the nighttime lighting. Apparently, someone else in our group did (made a little video going down) and it turned out ok. 

Oh well, next time!

Oh....and the music was pretty good too. Naturally, they play amplified music so we can jam while we're tubing. lol You know...Top 40 stuff.

Like I said.....we had a blast!  

Thanks to our Married's Group leader for planning such a fun event. Look forward to many more. 

Anyways....it's back to work.

Thrift Shop

Well, we finally found a little sumthin' sumthin' for Furman to wear in the snow on Saturday.
Yup.....got it from the THRIFT SHOP!
Had to share this tune that I heard on the radio because its fitting. Lol
(Don't mind the few curse words...it's got a nice beat and theme. Lol At least I think so.)

I was telling someone the other day that I prefer to shop and donate to the Salvation Army because I know what they do with the proceeds from their sales. They farm it back into the community. So, the person thought they'd do some research and came up with a silly video of someone trying to encourage people to boycott SallyAnn (aka Salvation Army) because it is a religious organization - Wikipedia. I didn't even bother listening to the entire video and i'm not posting it because i'm not trying to encourage such drivel. lol It just amazes me how people always have issues with religious organizations because they are religious but never focus on the fact that they are helping EVERYONE. Yup, even those not religious. But...i'm not going to start a debate here about religion because i've read several comments on news articles, etc....and when it comes to religion...people lose their minds and get quite testy. Religion and Politics...always set people off!! lol I just merely wanted to point out my choice in Thrift Shops and why....that's all. Not that you even care. hahaha

Goodwill is also a non-profit organization that helps the community. I'll sometimes check there for stuff too...but their prices are much higher than SallyAnn, in my opinion.

                                               

Now, Value Village..... is a privately held FOR PROFIT Thrift Shop. I check in there sometimes if I can't find what I might be looking for elsewhere. But, it's definitely not my first choice Thrift Shop. Just giving you something to think about...that's all.

I know some of you would NEVER shop at a Thrift Shop! But you really don't know what you are missing.
You can get some really good stuff at a Thrift Shop if you only take the time to look.
And, depending on the area where the Thrift Shop is....you can get some quality stuff! Not everybody donates junk! Sometimes people donate stuff because of a death in the family, moving out of country, etc. Some, have even lucked out by finding valuable items at a Thrift Shop. Oh yeah...lots of stories about that happening.

When you see those donation bins located around the city, do you ever wonder where the donations go? I mean really? I know that many of the boxes will identify some organization that you may have never heard of but....if not identified, what is done with the profits from the stuff we've donated?  Where is the stuff going? Whose pockets are we lining? Well, besides the local community that will often sift through stuff that has been left on the outside of the bins in some areas. That's stealing!! Some might be calling it an even trade when they are dropping off stuff and see something cool that they'd like. I dunno. I know many of us don't even care because we just want to get rid of some things we've been holding onto...and giving it away is better than throwing it away. I get it. I'm just saying.

If I lived in the city...I would definitely be giving my stuff to The Scott Mission. I have many memories as a little girl attending the Scott Mission Camp! Great times! Oh...and yes, it is another Christian, non denominational, non-profit organization that helps EVERYONE!  I used to go to their camp every year for several years. At first, I was angry because I thought that my auntie was just trying to get rid of me. lol Even though I had great fun. But, in hindsight, and having grown up....I certainly understand and appreciate the experiences that my auntie exposed me to. I tried to do the same for my own children. Awe yes...the camp songs, bonfires, horse riding, etc. I even have a small scar on my leg from one summer at camp when I was chasing some fool around the picnic table that had stolen my plate of Kraft macaroni and cheese. My leg hit the corner of the bench as we circled the table several times and it tore some skin off. lol Wasn't funny at the time. Scarred for life! You know that must have been some good mac and cheese. :)

Anyways...enough of my stroll down memory lane and talking about Thrift Shops. lol

We got Furman some pants and Saturday is going to be a blast at Snow Valley.
